Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12
Announcement
We join with the whole nation and friends across the world in expressing our sorrow at the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip. Amidst the pain and grief we also lift prayers of thanksgiving for his life, service and example to our nation and to the world.
Statement from Bishop Christopher
The Rt Rev Christopher Foster, Bishop of Portsmouth, said: "The Duke of Edinburgh has lived as an exemplar of public service and devotion to duty. His commitment to HM the Queen and to the nation has been steadfast, and his down-to-earth persona has been coupled with deep loyalty and service. I pray today with gratitude for his life, for Her Majesty and the Royal Family in their loss, and with compassion for all who mourn."

A Message from our Chaplain, Reverend Simon Brocklehurst
Dear Friends
ST NICHOLAS’ AND ST JAMES’ CHURCHES REOPEN.
After very careful consultation and consideration, decided to recommence worship in our two churches. It is important to realise, though, that there are sectors of or community and individuals within the community who are still very vulnerable. With this in mind we ask people to:
- ADHERE to strict hygiene regulations - the wearing of masks, disinfecting hands, avoidance of touch of people and items, two metre rule, not gathering in groups inside or outside the church
- CONSIDER whether it is right for you personally to attend public worship and avoid doing so if you are clinically vulnerable or shielding
- ISOLATE yourself and seek medical advice if you have a constant cough, a fever or the loss of taste or small.
For added safety and inline with current advice and legislation there will be music but no singing, Holy Communion in one kind, and face masks are to be worn throughout our time in the building.
Your affectionate and (trying not to be TOO socially distanced) friend and chaplain,
Simon

Avoiding isolation At the onset of the crisis Jim Watson, chair of the Parish Council, invited a handful of people from the community to meet together (socially distanced) to discuss a coordinated plan to care for people as the need arose. A special careline was set up, volunteer CRB checked responders were identified and several hundred leaflets delivered explaining that people could telephone the careline on 07534 770164, should they need help with shopping, prescriptions, other practical matters, or just to chat if they were feeling isolated. There have been relatively few requests or calls, but the line remains live, should anyone have need to call it
